Blog #29: The Pros & Cons Podcast

Over the last year and a half I have been working with Bethany Jones, cohost of The Pros & Cons, a really top notch true-crime podcast that focuses on the story that sensationalist media jackal -whores don't bother with. Where the media focuses solely on the gore and the horror of the crime, and sensationalizes what should be treated with dignity and respect, Bethany and her cohost Adrianna focus their attention on how things got to the point where they became so bad, and also what happened after the verdict was handed down and the media stopped paying attention, turning their attention to whatever new tragedy they could exploit for ratings.

In the time that I worked with her, Bethany never once even attempted to draw me into any kind of discussion that even hinted at sensationalism. From the beginning she handled the Tragedy of Dr. Schwartz's death with the utmost respect. She never once downplayed my role in what happened, but at the same time she didn't treat me like a monster either. I quickly came to understand why she has earned the moniker The Inmate Whisperer.

I have given a lot of thought about what to say to encourage you to tune in, but at the end of the Night, I think the interview will speak for itself. It requires no gilding of the lilly from me. Those of who follow me here, you know me. You know how I feel about the media, and you know I wouldn't consent to an interview if there was any possibility they would handle it in any way other than how it deserved. I hope you will listen to it, I hope that it helps you in some way, and I hope you will share it with everyone you know who might need it.

Spread the word, Cats & Kittens. We have to stop the Beast.

  1. Hi Kyle!

Before I start babbling about how I essentially made it to commenting on some random blog on the internet at 5:30 in the morning, I want to say that I'm so happy you had the opportunity to work with Bethany and had the opportunity to be listened to and be so vulnerable in this way after building such a huge distrust towards the media and probably most of the interest in "true crime" that seems to float around these days (which also is a whole other topic in itself, so I will leave my description as is... i think you will get the gist of what I nean). I listened to this podcast.... and it was so real. I was impressed by your ability to be so open and reflective; especially since it sounds like you had to do majority of this inner work alone!!

Anyway, I had an interest in your story for several years now. I read probably just about everything I could find on the internet about your background and was just amazed at how screwed over you had been since the beginning. I was debating writing you over the years, but ultimately decided against it for several reasons I won't go into here. I remember encountering this blog several years back, and had kinda just forgot to check on it once in a while. But when I looked today, for god knows what reason I just thought about you, and saw that you did this episode I was so excited. I was so interested in actually like... hearing you. Listening to your story, the way you told it, etc. I won't really downplay it -- stories "like" yours have always intrigued me as are so many signs that nothing has been or ever was right and when the bomb finally ticks and something bad inevitably happens everyone goes "huh? The f*ck is up with that person?" And immediately focuses on the aftermath and first perception of the event versus the circumstances leading up to it. And that's a shame. But I guess I can say that I'm happy to be here in a time to see so much of that uncover. We have learned so many things about risk factors kids in any system face (such as how letting foster kids go when they're legal adults with no support has been shown to not pan out well in the long run), amongst other stuff that contributes to kids being more vulnerable to tragic situations as adults.
Either way, you still just so happened to be greatly impacted by it, and it seems like very few have taken the time to understand it.

Anyway, hope all is going well with you. It was really nice to listen to this podcast, and it warms my heart to see how you had a positive experience from someone interested in looking at EVERY part of you. I hope more cool things like this happen to you in the future.

  2. Hi Kyle. I tried to add u on Facebook and somehow another person with Clara Schwartz name was added to my buddy list.

I suffered an unjust legal case as well. While awaiting trial in Virginia I met Katie Inglis by exchanging letters. Later one of my prison buddies was interested in my writing to Katie and gave me some advice to the contents of my letter writing. I quit writing Katie later around the time of my release from the feds. I was told I couldn't have contact with other inmates.

I was falsely sentenced after several lies by prosecutors in a few court documents as well as on official court record
